Minutes of the ANC 1A Regular Meeting
held on January 7, 2009 at Tubman Elementary School, D.C.

Secretary Lenwood Johnson called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. The following commissioners were present: Lisa Kralovic (1A01), Calvin Woodland (1A02), Luis Morales (1A03), Betty Pair (1A04), William Jordan (1A05), Samuel Johnson (1A06), Larry Ray (1A07), Cliff Valenti (1A08), LaKeisha G. Thomas (1A09), and Lenwood Johnson (1A10).

Secretary Johnson declared a quorum, and the proposed agenda was amended and approved by voice vote.

By voice vote, the commission approved the Minutes of the November 12, 2008 meeting.

Secretary Johnson yielded the floor to Gottlieb Simon who presided over the election of officers of ANC 1A. Cliff Valenti, nominated by Lisa Kralovic, was elected chair by receiving six (6) votes; Larry Ray, nominated by Betty Pair for chair, received four (4) votes. Betty Pair, nominated by Lisa Kralovic, was elected vice-chair by receiving seven (7) votes; William Jordan, nominated by Lenwood Johnson for vice-chair, received three (3) votes. Lenwood Johnson, nominated by Samuel Johnson, was sole candidate for secretary, and was elected by acclamation. LaKeisha Thomas, nominated by Betty Pair, was sole candidate for treasurer, and was elected by acclamation.

Chairman Valenti began to preside over the meeting immediately after the election.

By voice vote, the commission approved the following meeting dates for 2009: January 7, February 11, March 11, April 8, May 13, June 10, July 8, September 9, October 14, and November 4.

By voice vote, the commission approved the "Treasurer's Report," dated January 7, 2009.

Pedro Aviles gave a talk on the restoration-renovation of the Mt. Pleasant Library.

By unanimous voice vote, the commission approved a $500 (five hundred) grant for the Central American Resource Center (CARECEN).

By voice vote, the commission passed a resolution requesting the mayor to find ANC 1A free office space or provide the commission $600 (six hundred) monthly for office rent..

By voice vote, the commission agreed to protest a certain new business near Park Road and 11th Street.

By voice vote, the commission agreed to participate in the ANC Security Fund.

Chairman Valenti adjourned the meeting at 9:15 p.m.
