Minutes of the ANC 1A Regular Meeting
held on May 13, 2009 at Tubman
Elementary School, D.C.
Chairman Cliff Valenti called
the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Commissioners
present were: Lisa Kralovic (1A01), Calvin Woodland
(1A02), Luis Morales (1A03), Betty Pair (1A04), William Jordan (1A05), Cliff Valenti (1A08), LaKeisha G.
Thomas (1A09), and Lenwood Johnson (1A10). Approximately 55 persons attended the
meeting.
A quorum was declared, and the agenda was approved.
On a voice vote, the commission unanimously voted to
withhold a grant to Fiesta DC until after the grantee holds community meetings
on event.
On a
roll-call vote, the commission passed a resolution opposing a variance for 1314
Park Road (BZA Case #17925). Commissioners
Kralovic, Pair, Jordan, Valenti,
and Thomas voted “yes”; Commissioners Morales and Johnson (L) “abstained.”
By a
unanimous voice vote, the commission approved a resolution supporting a
variance for Church of Christ, Inc. (BZA Case #17946).
By a
unanimous voice vote, the commission approved a letter of support for the 2009
Caribbean Carnival Extravaganza.
By a
unanimous voice vote, the commission approved a resolution supporting a traffic
calming study for the 1300 Block of Newton Street.
By a
unanimous voice vote, the commission approved new committees for the
commission.
By a
unanimous voice vote, the commission approved (en bloc) voluntary agreements
for Not A Bike or Bar/Meridian Pint, Giant Liquors,
Cavalier Wine and Liquor, Petworth Liquors, and CC
Liquors.
By a
unanimous voice vote, the commission approved a letter of support for Thai Tanic to ABRA.
By a
unanimous voice vote, the commission approved a resolution agreeing to the
election of Sandra Scottland to the 1A11 seat on the
commission.
On a
roll-call vote, the commission failed to approve a letter of support for Future
Sudios, LLC.
Commissioners Kralovic, Morales, and Johnson
(L) voted “yes”; Commissioners Pair, Valenti, and
Thomas voted “no”; and Commissioners Woodland and Jordan “abstained.”
By a
unanimous voice vote, the commission agreed to protest the renewal of Speedy
Liquors liquor license.
Chairman
Valenti adjourned the meeting at 9:10 p.m.
